Set Up And Adjust A Clipless Bike Pedal
Introduction
Often with a clipless pedal it's possible to adjust the release spring tension.
Step 1
Set-Up The Clipless Pedal
Identify the adjusting bolts. There is one for each foot position. A set of double-sided pedals have four adjustment bolts.
Step 2
Prepare
Equalise the tension on all bolts on the clipless pedal by screwing to the low – anti-clockwise – limit. Don’t force them past the limit. You will feel defined steps every quarter turn.
Step 3
Adjust The Clipless Pedal
Test the entry and release force by clipping in and out of the clipless pedal.
Step 4
Match Both Sides
Adjust one position, counting the number of quarter turn steps. Test again. If tension is satisfactory adjust all other positions to match, otherwise repeat from step 3 as necessary. Remember to make any further adjustments equal for all foot positions on the clipless pedal.
