Step of 7: Check And True A Bike Wheel
Remove A Bike’s Front Wheel With Quick Release Skewer
Detach The front Wheel
If the bike has rim brakes open the brake.
Undo quick release skewer
Rotate the handle of the quick release skewer through 180 degrees from the closed position to the open position.
If the ends of the fork have ‘lawyer lip’ safety tags you’ll have to unscrew the nut, on the opposite side of the handle, and retighten it when you replace the front wheel in the fork. These extra metal lugs are only useful if someone tries to ride the bike with the quick-release incorrectly closed. Unless your bike has disc brakes or you’re going to lend it to an ignorant person there’s no problem in carefully filing them off to allow the quick release skewer to release quickly.
Remove The front Wheel
Lift the bike off the front wheel.
