Introduction

Shimano Hollowtech cranks have a hollow axle that is connected to the right-hand crank. They are simple to remove.

Step 1

Push the Shimano Hollowtech axle in - Fit A Shimano Hollowtech Crankset On A Bike

Push the Shimano Hollowtech axle in

Push the hollowtech axle in from the right-hand side.

Step 2

Fit the left hand Shimano Hollowtech crank - Fit A Shimano Hollowtech Crankset On A Bike

Fit the left hand Shimano Hollowtech crank

Ease the left-hand Shimano Hollowtech crank onto the axle make sure it's exactly parallel to the other crank.

Step 3

Fit the Safety Tab - Fit A Shimano Hollowtech Crankset On A Bike

Fit the Safety Tab

Push the plastic safety tab back into the slot in the left-hand Shimano Hollowtech crank.

Step 4

Screw in the Pre-load Cap - Fit A Shimano Hollowtech Crankset On A Bike

Screw in the Pre-load Cap

Screw in the plastic pre-load cap. It goes in finger tight with a special plastic tool.

Step 5

Lock the Left Hand Shimano Hollowtech Crank - Fit A Shimano Hollowtech Crankset On A Bike

Lock the Left Hand Shimano Hollowtech Crank

Tighten the pinch bolts in turn a little at a time. The Shimano Hollowtech crankset has now been fitted properly.
