Adjust A Bike’s Handlebar Controls Attached To Drop Handlebars
Introduction
The handlebar controls need to be easily accessible and your hands need to be comfortable while riding to avoid fatigue. Controls need to be positioned before you put tape on drop handlebars.
Step 1
Find The Clamp Bolts on the handlebar controls
The clamp bolts for combined brake and gear controls are usually hidden under the rubber hood. Peel the hood back carefully to find them. On stand-alone brake levers the clamp bolt is often inside the lever, pull the brake into the ‘on’ position to reveal their heads.
Step 2
Loosen
Loosen the clamp bolts so the controls can just be moved on the drop handlebars.
Step 3
Position on the drop handlebars
Position the handlebar controls where they are easy to operate and comfortable to rest on.
Step 4
Lock
Clamp the controls tight in the new position on the drop handlebars.
Step 5
Check
Make sure the handlebar controls still have room to function, that the levers can travel as far as necessary.
